Stephen A. Smith Says He’s a ‘Fool’ After Saying Dwayne Haskins Would Be Better than NFC East Rival QB

The release of Dwayne Haskins by the Washington Football Team has made ESPN’s Stephen A Smith walk back on one of his takes following the 2019 NFL Draft.

On Monday, the Washington Football Team officially cut ties with second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Haskins was one of the team’s first-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Haskins quickly fell out of favor with two coaching staffs in Washington. However, it is still surprising to see a franchise release a player before the end of his second season. Especially when they invested a first-round pick in the said player. Not to mention, Haskins just started in a crucial game against the Carolina Panthers with playoff implications the day before his release. The entire situation illustrates how much of a disaster Haskins’ time with Washington was.

Even while on vacation over the holiday season, the news of the Washington Football Team releasing Haskins on Monday could not go unacknowledged by Stephen A. Smith. After criticizing the New York Giants for passing up on Haskins for Daniel Jones, the First Take co-host admitted he made a mistake.

“I was totally WRONG about Dwayne Haskins,” Smith admitted via Twitter. “Thinking the Giants were foolish to pass up on him in favor of Daniel Jones, I look like a damn fool.”

“You know how bad you have to be as a player — and person — to be a 1st-round pick and still get released inside of two years?” Smith questioned. “This has bad attitude written all over it. Not being mature enough. Not working hard enough. Why else would Washington let him go right now? Inside of 2 years, Haskins entire football career is now officially in grave jeopardy.”

Not the First Time Haskins Made Stephen A. Smith Look Foolish

There is no question that Stephen A. Smith has had his share of questionable Dwayne Haskins takes in the past. It wasn’t all that long ago when the ESPN analyst called the former Ohio State Buckeye “more of a runner than a thrower” as he was coming out of college. Smith made that claim despite the fact that Haskins ran a 5.04-second forty-yard dash. Likewise, the former Ohio State quarterback rushed for only 108 yards during his final season in Columbus.

However, Smith apologized for his take later on, deeming himself an “ignorant fool.” Unfortunately, as time would tell, this would not be the last time that Haskins would go on to make Smith look foolish.
