Tennessee Titans’ Derrick Henry is being recognized by NFL fans for going over 100 yards in the first half of the game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The tweet by NFL Update states, “#Titans RB Derrick Henry has 17 carries, 140 yards, and 3 TDs with 1:41 left in the first half. Beast Mode.”

Fans are even labeling the football player “King Henry.”

King Derrick Henry

Henry is a force to be reckoned with as he continues to take the Tennessee Titans to the finish line. The Titans have won five of the six games of the season. Henry held nothing back during the AFC playoff race, as he rushed a total of 896 yards and 10 touchdowns.

“We have that mindset that it’s playoff football right now and have to be locked in every week,” said Henry.

The Indianapolis Colts team has reached the top of the AFC South by adopting a bullying approach under coach Frank Reich. Both the Titans and the Colts are similar in their approach to winning on the football field.

“Us and the Titans are built very similarly with a similar philosophy,” Reich said via conference call previous to today’s game. “If you want to bring physicality to a team, it starts up front, on both sides of the ball. We place an emphasis on having that right demeanor and size/strength to play a physically dominating game. We have a ton of respect for the Titans, which makes for a great challenge on Sunday.”

Henry also has full respect for the Colts’ All-Pro linebacker, Darius Leonard.

“It’s always great to go against Darius Leonard. I know he’s going to play hard every down,” Henry said. “He’s the general of that defense and flies to the ball. He’s an all-around great linebacker and one of the best in the league.”

The Colts are only allowing 89.2 rushing yards per game, which is the third best in the league.

But “King Henry” is the only player to gain 100 yards or more against the Colts in the past 26 games. He has successfully done it twice, with one of those including a 103-yard performance coming at a 34-17 loss at home to Indianapolis two weeks ago.

Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts

How are the Colts hoping to conquer the king of the Tennessee Titans?

“We have to be physical, fast, and have gap integrity because if you don’t, you will be exposed against this team,” Reich said. “Henry has a rare combination of size, speed, and strength. He has skills, vision, and footwork, then he has great balance. He’s the complete package as a running back … He’s the best in the league.”

Tennessee Titans’ Derrick Henry is Making Major Moves

The Tennessee Titans beat the Baltimore Ravens by a 30-24 win last week. Henry gained 96 yards of his 133 rushing yards in the fourth quarter and overtime.

“He’s been an outlier,” Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith said. “He’s in phenomenal shape. As the games and seasons have gotten going, this is where he usually picks up some steam, as he did the other day in Baltimore.”

Through 10 games, Henry’s 229 rushing attempts are the most in NFL history. Henry’s leading fourth-quarter totals include 59 carries, 419 yards, and five rushing touchdowns, showing his importance in the winning of games, especially during the ending.

“They’ve outscored opponents 41-3 in the second half of the last two games, which included us,” Tennessee Titans’ coach Mike Vrabel said. “We weren’t able to score in the second half. They aren’t front-runners. They’re going to compete and fight to finish throughout the game. We have to be strong throughout and be able to match their physicality and intensity, especially in the second half of the football game.”

The importance of Tennessee’s defense when facing a hard offense like the Colts, who try to wear down opposing teams, is similar to how the Titans do with Henry.

“[Henry running the ball] is a benefit. Ideally, it keeps us fresh and we’re not having to go right back out there with just seconds coming off the clock,” Tennessee outside linebackers coach Shane Bowen added. “It goes into our culture and how we’re built, in terms of our mindset being able to run the ball and play defense.”

Reactions from Titans’ and Colts’ Fans

Tennessee Titans fans are ecstatic and responding to the NFL Update tweet with positivity. However, Colts fans aren’t feeling the same.

One Titans fan states, “Say it with me now. Derrick Henry is the best running back in football.”

Another reads, “Henry is a one man wrecking crew. Unbelievable.”

But Colts fans aren’t too happy and are responding to the Twitter post.

“Who else is depressed cause you’re going against Henry in fantasy,” says one comment.

And one more exclaims “We are so screwed when we play the Titans.”

A comment sums it up by saying: “Best player in the league.”
