NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw may be known for his prowess on the field. But the former athlete also has an ear for music as well. Bradshaw recently revealed a few of his musical idols. And well, the former athlete is apparently a country music fan.
Both country legends Glen Campbell and Alan Jackson rank among Bradshaw’s personal idols. Gospel singer Jake Hess and pop singer Kelly Clarkson also made the cut. Both Bradshaw and Campbell actually became good friends. They even performed together, singing “You Don’t Know How Good You’ve Got It.”
“Pavarotti. I love Glen Campbell, I always did, he was a friend of mine. I grew up idolizing the Statesmen Quartet and their lead singer, Jake Hess, who I ended up doing an album with,” Bradshaw told Parade Magazine. “The Isaacs became dear friends of mine, phenomenal gospel bluegrass group with great, unbelievable harmony—and I love great harmony. I’m a huge Eagles fan—huge Eagles fan. I’m an Alan Jackson fan. I love Kelly Clarkson. I love people that can sing—that can sing.”
Terry Bradshaw, Country Singer
Many sports fans may not know this. But besides football, music has been Terry Bradshaw‘s great passion in life. Though he may not look like it, the former athlete loves to sing. Bradshaw probably won’t make the Country Music Hall of Fame. But his passion extends beyond just a hobby.
In 1976, Bradshaw released a debut country music album. At the time, the athlete was in the middle of his NFL career, playing as quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Releasing a country album may seem like an odd career trajectory. But the singer loved music even before he loved football.
His debut album was named after a Hank Williams song “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” and it actually featured a few hit tunes. For instance, Bradshaw’s cover of the titular classic song earned him a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. That’s no small feat for a musician, much less an athlete turned singer.
In the years since, Bradshaw has continued to explore music. More recently and famously, Bradshaw appeared as a secret guest on the popular show “The Masked Singer.”
Bradshaw hid his identity behind a deer-costume. But some of his song choices should have given him away. For instance, Bradshaw sang Florida Georgia Line’s “Get Your Shine On” during the competition. While Bradshaw was ultimately voted off he seemed to have a good time while on the show.
