Houston Texans fans worried about Deshaun Watson probably shouldn’t check the Twitter account of Randall Cobb.
You’ve heard about reading tea leaves. In this case, we’re reading Cobb gifs. After all, Cobb, a receiver, would know what’s going on with Watson, the Texans quarterback.
It doesn’t look good for the Texans.
So, Deshaun Watson, will he or won’t he be the quarterback for the Texans this fall? The Texans thought a 4-12 season was bad. Now, the off season is bringing chatter that Watson wants out, months after Houston gave him a four-year, $156 million contract extension.
ESPN NFL analyst Adam Schefter posted on Twitter Sunday:
“There is a growing sense from people in and around the Texans’ organization that Deshaun Watson has played his last snap for the team. It’s early in the off-season, there’s a lot of time left, but Watson’s feelings cannot and should not be underestimated.”
Schefter then added: “There’s no team out there better positioned than the New York Jets to put together a compelling trade package for Deshaun Watson.”
Or how about Miami? There was more social media chatter about that, too. Maybe it’s Miami, if the Dolphins swap for Deshaun Watson and send Tua Tagovailoa to the Texans.
So what happened to start this mess? The offseason is only two weeks old. Apparently, Deshaun Watson was angered by Houston owner Cal McNair hiring general manager Nick Caserio. Watson learned of the hire by reading Twitter. He posted on Twitter “somethings never change,” then deleted the comment.
Watson, 25, is part of a small search committee to help with the team’s major hires. McNair fired Bill O’Brien, the team’s head coach and general manager, in October.
McNair still is looking for a new coach, who will have to either sooth Deshaun Watson or find his replacement. Neither is something a new coach wants on his plate just as he gets the keys to his new office.
Seemingly everyone has an opinion on the DeShaun Watson saga. On Saturday, former NFL receiver Randy Moss took up for Watson.
“No, ‘just shut up and play,’ we’re done with that era” Moss said on ESPN’s “Postseason NFL Countdown” “You know, we’re going into the 21st century, guys. When we look at what the Houston Texans have done with Deshaun Watson, there’s been some great things they have done with him.
“But I do believe they have failed a guy like Deshaun Watson,” Moss said. “Think about his rookie year when he comes in. Deshaun Watson’s from the south, we know what his background, know his story.
