There Are Wild Fans…And Then There’s Indiana Football’s Student Section Ripping Out an Entire Bleacher

Indiana University football fans lost their minds when the Hoosiers took the lead over the University of Cincinnati Bearcats today. They got so hyped and crazy that a part of the student section in Bloomington, Indiana, even ripped out an entire bleacher.

Yep, you read that right. Fans hoisted the long metal bench –where most spectators sit or stand to cheer on their favorite teams– high overhead during today’s game.

They freaked out because in the first quarter of the game, the Hoosiers scored a touchdown against the Bearcats and left the other team scoreless by the end of the quarter. The Hoosiers scored again in the second quarter, even as Cincinnati scored, putting the Indiana football team ahead 14-10 at the half.

We’ll see if Indiana keeps their lead, but in the meantime, people are enjoying the antics from the Hoosier student body.

Can we take a moment and appreciate how heavy that probably is? It’s hard to tell from the pic how many people are holding it up, but it’s gotta be a group effort.

We can understand fans’ excitement though. The Indiana football team’s currently 1-1, having lost to No. 5 Iowa 34-6, then turning around to beat Idaho 56-14. The Hoosiers could use a win, though few people expected them to do this well against a No. 8 team like Cincinnati.

It’s also hard to take the Hoosiers seriously when they’ve had several silly slip-ups in the few weeks since the start of the college football season.

Indiana University’s Football Season is Full of Shenanigans

On college football’s opening weekend, Indiana University’s official Twitter account shared a photo of freshman running back David Holloman taking the field.

He looks calm, cool, and collected in the pic. But you can also clearly see where “Indiana” is spelled “Indinia” on Holloman’s jersey. Talk about embarrassing.

And this comes off the Hoosier’s jersey scandal from last season. The Big 10 school left off the logo for the conference in their last game of the season, causing an uproar. Two jersey mishaps in a row doesn’t look too good for the school.

And then, last week, Indiana celebrated their victory over Idaho in true fan fashion. They raised the school flag at Memorial Stadium, as any team would. Only, the Hoosiers raised their flag upside down. Sigh.

Now, it’s Week 3 of the college football season. And the Indiana University fans have ripped out a bleacher. We’ll have to wait and see what other shenanigans the school gets up to. Next week, they face off against Western Kentucky.
