Tom Brady Autographs Intercepted Football for Jets’ Cornerback Brandin Echols

by Quentin Blount

A Tom Brady interception against the New York Jets turned out to be one of the coolest stories from Sunday’s slate of games.

Brady, of course, is the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He led his team to an impressive come-from-behind 28-24 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon. Brady is now tied with Drew Brees all-time with 53 game-winning drives in his career. With his most recent comeback against New York, Brady surpassed Ben Roethlisberger who has 52 game-winning drives. He now only trails former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning (54 game-winning drives).

However, one of the reasons that Tampa Bay fell behind on Sunday was thanks to a rare interception thrown by Brady. The Bucs were down 14-10 right before halftime when their potential scoring drive was halted. On the receiving end of the pick was Jets rookie cornerback Brandin Echols.

Brady obviously overcame the interception and went on to lead his team to the win. But it was what happened after the game that has people buzzing on social media. Cameras caught the moment when Echols approached the future Hall of Fame quarterback and asked him to autograph the ball he intercepted.

Tom Brady Autograph Not Sitting Well with Jets Fans

It goes without saying that rookie Brandin Echols was hyped to meet Tom Brady. After all, Brady is considered to be the GOAT — the greatest quarterback to ever play in the NFL. But even so, the Jets lost in heartbreaking fashion, and the fact that Echols is asking Brady for an autograph after a loss isn’t sitting well with diehard Jets fans.

“I think it’s pathetic that a player, Brandin Echols in this case, would ask another player (Brady) for an autograph on the field after a game they just lost,” one fan said on Twitter. “Beyond pathetic. Grow up dude.”

“Echols just asked Brady for an autograph… are you kidding me? SO BAD,” another fan tweeted.

“Brandin Echols has to get ripped apart in the locker room for that,” a third person commented. “You can’t let Tom Brady do that to you and then ask for his autograph.”

“Did I really see a Jets player meet Brady at midfield 5 seconds after the game ended and ask him to autograph a football?” asked another user. “That is embarrassing. Jets should cut that player immediately.”

Despite Jets fans being upset, Echols’s big play definitely caught the eye of head coach Robert Saleh.

“Defensively, we held up. Did a lot of great things,” he said. “A lot of young guys made a lot of great plays. There were a lot of things that I thought were fantastic from our group against a championship football team.”
