Tom Brady and Bill Belichick Hug in the Rain After ‘The Return’

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick won six Super Bowl together. They are the most successful coach/quarterback combo of all time. But when Brady left New England, many speculated that he had a problem with his former coach. If there was any lingering animosity between them, it died on a rainy night in Foxboro, Mass.

Tom Brady led the Super-Bowl defending Buccaneers to a 19-17 win over his former team. After the game, he and Belichick hugged at midfield. The two future Hall of Famers shared a private 20-minute meeting in the visitor’s locker room later. Though neither of them was willing to discuss that meeting.

“We’ve had a personal relationship for 20-plus years,” Brady said after that meeting. “He drafted me here. We had a lot of personal conversations that should remain that way. They’re very private.

“I would say, so much is made of our relationship. … Nothing is really accurate that I ever see. It definitely doesn’t come from my personal feelings or beliefs.”

Taciturn as ever, Belichick downplayed the significance of playing against his former star.

“We went against Tom Brady every day in practice defensively, so it’s not like we’ve never seen Tom Brady before,” Belichick said, according to Boston.com. “They’re a good football team, he’s a great quarterback. I think that all goes without saying.”

The showdown between Brady and Belichick lived up to the hype but not in the way anyone expected. Brady finished the game with 269 passing yards but no touchdowns. It was New England‘s rookie quarterback Mac Jones who won the night despite the loss. He finished with 275 yards and two scores, and he proved he’s the future of the franchise.

New England fans got to feel what the rest of us have endured for more than two decades. They got to watch Tom Brady win in the final seconds of a game. Though, this one came after the Patriots missed the game-winning field goal as time expired.

Tom Brady Breaks Passing Record in Homecoming at New England

Tom Brady solidified his position as the G.O.A.T Sunday when he broke Drew Brees‘ all-time passing record. Though, he didn’t seem to care in the moment.

Brady hit wideout Mike Evans for a 28-yard gain late in the first quarter. That pushed him past 80,359 yards for his career. But no one recognized the achievement right away.

Brady called timeout after the play, and the scoreboard finally acknowledge the milestone. But when a referee rushed over to give him the ball that he used to set the mark, Brady turned and hurled it to his team’s equipment manager on the sideline.

As always, Brady stayed focused on winning the game.

Even if Brady didn’t have any reaction to setting the new mark, New England fans did. Though, they didn’t know how to feel. Some cheered on their former captain while others booed.

Tom Brady says he has years of playing left in him. So, expect his grip on the passing record to tighten as he goes on. It’s another bar that he will set so high that it will be nearly impossible for future quarterbacks to clear.
