Tyrann Mathieu Says Tom Brady Called Him Something He ‘Won’t Repeat’ in Since-Deleted Tweet

Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady got heated during Sunday’s Super Bowl.

During one particularly tense moment in the second quarter, it looked like the two opponents might come to blows. Mathieu ran up to Brady with only seconds left in the first half. The safety stuck his finger in Brady’s face and yelled something. Afterwards, Brady then chased Mathieu before the two were separated.

For his actions, refs gave Mathieu a 15-yard penalty. But Brady didn’t receive any unsportsmanlike conduct call.

In a deleted tweet, Mathieu said he had a good reason for the exchange. The safety claimed that Brady called him something so bad he won’t repeat it.

“He called me something I won’t repeat,” Mathieu wrote. “But yeah I’ll let all the media throw me under bus as if I did something or said something to him…. go back to my previous games against TB12 I showed him nothing but respect. Look at my interviews about him… I show grace.”

And in another deleted tweet, the safety called out the refs for not giving Brady a penalty as well: “He’s clearly chasing me but I got flagged… lol.”

Tyrann Mathieu Comments After the Game

After the Super Bowl, Mathieu refused to reveal what Brady said that made him so angry. But the safety seemed over the drama on the field and ready to move forward.

“Listen, Tom Brady’s a great quarterback,” Mathieu said, according to Pro Football Talk. “I never really saw that side of Tom Brady, to be honest. But whatever. No comment. It’s over with. I’m done with it.”

Mathieu’s temper flared during the matchup at several times. During one key play, Mathieu intercepted the ball, only for a holding call to erase the turnover. During another key point, refs flagged Mathieu for pass interference in the end zone. The safety fumed all the way to the bench where he could be seen yelling.

Overall, Kansas City made several mental errors that cost them the game. For his part, Brady gave a calm and collected if dominant performance throughout the match-up. The quarterback led Tampa Bay to their second Super Bowl win and his seventh overall.
