If Tyreek Hill gets his wish, the Kansas City Chiefs will lose valuable offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
And that would be a good thing for everyone who respects the 51-year-old Bieniemy. Hill and other players want Bieniemy to become a head coach of an NFL team.
Bieniemy is a popular name when media and fans compile lists for any job opening. But it’s puzzling why Bieniemy has yet to be hired.
Tyreek Hill Is Big Cheerleader for His Offensive Coordinator
Tyreek Hill is a cheerleader for his offensive coordinator.
“Besides coach (Andy) Reid, I’ve never seen a guy who comes into work each and every day who wants to get better,” Tyreek Hill told TMZ.com.
“Everything that he says on the sidelines or in meetings, guys are going to go out and do it because all of us, we want to fight for him because he’s a great coach.”
Long before Tyreek Hill met him, Bieniemy was an All-American running back at Colorado. He played nine seasons in the pros. Bieniemy has been a coach for the past 20 seasons, serving as an offensive coordinator at both his alma mater and Kansas City.
Kansas City, the defending Super Bowl champions, rank first in the NFL in total offense this season, averaging nearly 428 total yards a game. The offense is heavy with dazzling talent, including Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. It’s head coach Andy Reid who calls most of the plays, not Bieniemy.
The Houston Texans could be targeting Bieniemy as their new head coach. But it’s likely Bieniemy won’t leave the Chiefs until after their playoff run.
“I wouldn’t mind playing for him anywhere because our relationship off the field is amazing,” Tyreek Hill said. “He cares about the player that much.”
NFL teams love to shake Reid’s coaching tree. His last two offensive coordinators got promoted. The Philadelphia Eagles hired Doug Pederson and the Chicago Bears tapped Matt Nagy.
Hill Makes 5th Straight Pro Bowl
Hill, who is one of the fastest players in the league, is in his fifth season with the Chiefs. He’s made the Pro Bowl in all five seasons as either a return specialist or a wide receiver.
This season, Hill’s caught 83 passes for 1,211 yards and 15 touchdowns.
He’s expected to play today against the Atlanta Falcons. However, Hill is dealing with a tender hamstring. He missed practice, Wednesday, and was limited Thursday and Friday. With a win over Atlanta, Kansas City (13-1) can clinch home field advantage through the playoffs.
