UFC: Floyd Mayweather Posts Big Payday in New Pic After Betting Against Conor McGregor

As they say, it takes money to make money. And that’s something legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather has bags full of. So it’s no surprise to see him bet big against Conor McGregor in last night’s UFC fight and take home a huge payday following the shocking results.

Conor McGregor – Dustin Poirier III went down in Las Vegas, Nevada last night as what was supposed to be the pair’s deciding trilogy fight. McGregor won their first bout back in 2014 and Poirier defeated McGregor earlier this year in January. The third fight was supposed to be the decider between the fighters who were tied at one win apiece.

Yet a fluke injury has cast doubts over who truly won the fight. With seconds left in the first round, McGregor ended up breaking his leg with no contact. While the victory went to Poirier due to doctor stoppage, there’s clearly unfinished business between the pair.

However, one fan that couldn’t care less how McGregor lost is former undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather shared his winning betting slip for the world to see. He dropped some people’s annual salary on one single bet, which was a $50,000 straight bet for Poirier to win against McGregor. After officials ruled Poirier the winner following the Irishman’s leg injury, Mayweather took home an extra $35,714.

In addition to his bet, Mayweather and McGregor have a bit of history together. Following the boxer’s retirement, he returned to the ring in August 2017 to fight McGregor in a much-hyped fight. It became the second-highest pay-per-view buy rate in history because of the enormous interest in the two fighters. In the 10th Round, Mayweather defeated McGregor by TKO and extended his undefeated streak to 50-0.

Conor McGregor Loses to Dustin Poirier After Freak Accident at UFC 264

UFC 264’s main event was anticlimactic, to say the least. The Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier trilogy fight lasted only one round and came to a stunning halt due to injury. Fans didn’t quite get the third bout they wanted to break the fighters’ deadlock.

The two UFC fighters began their trilogy seven years ago at UFC 178 in September 2014. While fighting in the featherweight division, McGregor came away victorious with a first-round TKO in their first meeting. Fast forward to earlier this year and the pair faced off once more. In January, Poirier got his revenge when both men moved up to the lightweight division weight class. The Louisiana native earned a second-round knockout to tie their record at 1-1.

Just six months later, McGregor and Poirier went at it once more. The third fight was supposed to bring the series of bouts to an end, but it may have left more questions than answers. McGregor looked good early on as he took the fight to Poirier. However, Poirier fought back towards the end of the first round and looked like he regained control of the bout.

Yet with seconds to go in the first round, McGregor attempted to strike his opponent, and instead, his left leg broke in half forcing the ref to call the fight early. The unlucky injury is far from the ending UFC fans were expecting from the main event. Following the bout, McGregor and Poirier each admitted there’s unfinished business. So there very well could be a McGregor – Poirier IV. But McGregor will be sidelined from the octagon for at least the rest of this year. We may have to wait until 2022 for their rivalry to be resolved.
