Police in Colorado are investigating Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller, though they have not disclosed why. But the probe reportedly follows several disturbing text messages he allegedly sent his ex-girlfriend, saying he hopes she miscarries their child or has an abortion.
Miller’s ex Megan Denise posted an Instagram story that featured an ultrasound image of a child she said belongs to Miller. Along with those images, she included several text messages allegedly from Miller, the Washington Post reported. Those included the messages supposedly from the 2016 Super Bowl MVP that read “I’m honestly praying for a miscarriage,” “F***ing disappear and get an abortion,” and, “I hate you! … You gon get yours! Believe that.”
She made an oblique reference to abuse, saying she sympathized with anyone who was in an abusive relationship, the Post reported. “Praying death of me and mine was enough,” she posted.
Miller denied the texts were from him in his own Instagram post. “Fake News. Lol The reality of somebody leaving you make some people literally crazy. Classic Trap,” he wrote.
It’s unclear when police began investigating Miller or for what. Prosecutors haven’t filed any charges in the case and police have said nothing. Miller has retained a lawyer.
Denise seemingly walked back her abuse comments in a later Instagram post.
“In light of recent media reports regarding my relationship with Von, I feel that I need to address a couple of things. First and foremost, at no point in our relationship was there any type of physical abuse or violence by Von, whatsoever,” she posted on Instagram. “For anyone to say otherwise, or to speculate such, is wrong.
“With regards to my social media posts, a part was misconstrued and taken out of context. I do regret making a private situation public, and in doing so, bringing unwanted attention to both Von and myself. Von and I are excited to be welcoming our baby into the world, and are committed to raising our child with love and compassion, together as a family.”
Fans React to Von Miller Investigation and Texts
The leaked alleged texts have split the Broncos fandom. Miller missed the 2020 season with an ankle injury, but 31-year-old is still a beloved member of the team. However, some fans now say they will no longer support him while others are sticking by him until more news is released.
Another person tweeted “May have to reconsider my “Von Miller is my favorite non-Chief” stance”.
Though most seems to be taking a wait-and-see approach to the text messages.
“Do not throw Von Miller under the bus just because he have done something wrong. Hs been a great player and you need to have his back on this please keep him. It would be great if he could keep playing for us along with Chubb’s. Maybe they can finally play together,” another person posted.
“So long as we don’t know what Von Miller is being investigated for, I’m not going to speculate and feed that toxicity,” another post read.
Miller has another year on his contract with Denver. The Broncos told the Washington Post in a statement that they “are in the process of gathering more information” about the case, but had no further comment.
