WATCH: Buffalo Bills Have Snowball Fight After Practice

There’s nothing like fresh snow to bring out the kid in such grown men. Cue the video of the Buffalo Bills and their Thursday post-practice moment.

Why, that’s owner billionaire owner Terry Pegula filming cornerback Tre’Davious White sitting on a snow bank, then blitzing his teammates with some targeted snow throws. That’s defensive lineman Ed Oliver using his hands (he was wearing gloves) to swat snow at his teammates. The shovel approach sent more snow, but it wasn’t as accurate.

There was so much laughter. Wait, is this football crunch time?

Why Were The Buffalo Bills Getting All That Snow?

We know it snows a ton in Buffalo, which isn’t that far from Niagara Falls and the Canadian border. That’s what gives it, um, it’s winter-time charm. The city averages about 95 inches of snow every year. Our feet get cold just typing that. Just brrr. The bad storms tend to come early – it’s called lake effect snow – before Lake Erie completely freezes.

So Buffalo is experiencing some early Christmas snow. Most of New York is, too.

The Weather Channel said a near stationary band of heavy snow parked itself over northern Pennsylvania and central New York Wednesday night, setting up some spots for record-breaking amounts.

The winter storm has a name. It’s called Winter Storm Gail. Remember when you see video footage during hurricane season? After every big storm, some residents drive their boats through flooded streets. After a winter storm in Buffalo, you throw snowballs.

Bills Are In a Light-Hearted Mood

Buffalo can boast of being one of the best teams in the NFL. The Bills are 10-3. They travel to Denver this weekend for a Sunday game against the Broncos.

If Buffalo wins, the team clinches the AFC East title and a spot in the playoffs. That would be quite a change in the division. New England earned the title for eight straight years. But the Patriots are without star quarterback Tom Brady this year. He’s quarterbacking the Tampa Bay Bucs. With the Patriots suddenly toothless, or Brady-less, the Bills stepped into the void.

If Buffalo wins the division, it’ll be the first time in 25 years. If throwing a few snow balls curbs some of the nerves, you know coach Sean McDermott is all for it.

The Bills made the playoffs last season, but it left a bitter taste. That’s because Buffalo lost in overtime to the Houston Texans in the wildcard round. They finished the regular season with a 10-6 record.

From the video, it appears the defensive players instigated the snow fight.

That’s fitting. The group is feisty on the field, too. In the past eight games, the Bills forced at least one turnover. Four of the games featured multiple takeaways. Those off-schedule plays help in wins.

So Buffalo, you’ve earned a bit of post-practice levity.
