Play-by-play announcers have chances to make great calls. For the Charlotte Hornets and their TV announcer, there was an opportunity to do so.
Let’s set the scene a bit. On New Year’s Night, the Hornets were hosting the Memphis Grizzlies and the home team was losing 44-40 with 4:27 left until halftime.
Hornets center Bismack Biyombo, who stands 6 foot, 8 inches tall, thought it would be a good idea to take a three-point shot. It should be noted that Biyombo has a career 5.2 points-per-game average.
Well, Biyombo has his direction down but the execution is a bit off.
The reaction from Charlotte Hornets play-by-play announcer Eric Collins is, as the kids say, pretty rad.
“Oh my goodness!” Collins screamed. “Bismack Biyombo, we saw him practicing threes before the game. That’s a stunner.”
Collins’ call is worth hearing because he sounds a bit shocked to see Biyombo heave it up from way downtown.
Charlotte Hornets Add Gordon Hayward To Their Team
Before the season, the Charlotte Hornets picked up free agent guard Gordon Hayward. The team signed him to a four-year, $120 million deal.
Hayward became a free agent after declining a $34.2 million player option with his previous team, the Boston Celtics, for next season, according to ESPN.
Last season, Hayward averaged 17.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 52 games played after a rough start to his Celtics career. He severely injured his leg six minutes into his debut game with Boston. Hayward missed the remainder of the 2017 season. During his three-year run with the Celtics, he missed 142 total games.
Hayward, however, has put up good numbers when healthy enough to be on the court. The Charlotte Hornets are banking on his return to full health by doling out a huge $100 million-plus contract.
Hornets’ Hayward Fails At Making Thanksgiving Turkey
With that big contract, you might think Hayward would get someone to make a Thanksgiving turkey for him and his family.
Think again. Hayward was doing his best to cook one, but he struggled with it.
Robyn Hayward, Gordon’s wife, shared a series of hilarious videos that captured her husband’s struggles on Instagram. Her initial clip of the turkey had an accompanying caption that said “Is this how it’s supposed to look?” No, Robyn, it’s not.
In the video, Gordon Hayward looks perplexed after taking the turkey out of the oven. Bones are falling off, the skin is sliding off, and the turkey looks like it’s either collapsed or just melted away.
As the newest member of the Charlotte Hornets tried to transfer the turkey to a serving platter, Robyn shares some thoughts in another clip.
“Alright, let’s see what’s inside,” she says to her husband as he picks it up. “Oh, God. That’s not pretty.”
