Tom Brady lauded Patrick Mahomes in a Super Bowl face off Monday night. And Patrick Mahomes loved him back.

They’ll be facing off against each other Sunday when Brady’s Tampa Bay Bucs take on Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The plotline already is fixed. It’s the 43-year-old Brady, who is looking for his seventh Super Bowl win, against Mahomes, who leads the new wave of NFL quarterbacks.

And Tom Brady was only complimentary of Patrick Mahomes in an interview with the NFL Network. His compliments were genuine. Check them out yourself and hang with us to the other side.

No Shocker Here: Tom Brady Loves Mahomes’ Athletic Ability

What does Tom Brady admire most about Patrick Mahomes, the 25-year-old Texan?

Brady described how he loved to watch Patrick Mahomes movement in the pocket when he’s under pressure. He’s already standing six yards back, Brady says, and then will quickly drop back 15 to 20 yards.

“He flicks that ball 60 yards downfield,” Brady says, “on a dime to Tyreek (Hill).

“He knows exactly when to get rid of the ball…. He’s got that nice, sweet little wimpy arm I used to have when I was little bit younger.”

Obviously, the “wimpy arm” is a joke.

Brady also is obsessed with Mahomes’ athletic ability.

“He’s got the athletic ability to extend plays,” Brady said of Patrick Mahomes. “He’s got all the athletic tools and the mental tools. … he’s going to be in this game quite a few more times, in my opinion.”

And yes, Brady would love to be able to sprint past a blitzing safety and dodge a lineman or linebacker. Patrick Mahomes does it effortlessly. But Brady is the classic quarterback, who stands in the pocket just long enough to find his first, second or third read downfield. Mahomes came of age with the up-tempo spread brand of offense.

“You can’t teach an old dog some of those new tricks,” Brady said of Mahomes ability to run or throw. “But that’s definitely a new trick I wish I could learn.”

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes Picks Up Diet Tips From Brady

Patrick Mahomes was equally as complimentary of Brady. When asked what he’s learned most from Brady, Mahomes said:

“You have to invest as much time into your body as you do anything else. I’ve learned more and more in my young career about what I can do to keep myself available and healthy. I wanna play as long as they let me.”

Patrick Mahomes would have to give up so much good stuff to be like Tom Brady.

Brady is infamous for his strict diet. He doesn’t drink caffeine. He also stays away from sugar, even chicken. Instead, he eats lots of grains, grilled veggies and fish. It’s served Brady well. It’s why he recently said he can see himself playing at least a couple of years more.

“I would definitely consider that,” Brady said. “It’s a physical sport, and just the perspective I have on that is you never know when that [final] moment is. Just because it’s a contact sport. There is a lot of training that goes into it. It has to be a 100-percent commitment from myself to do it.”
