WATCH: Rory McIlroy Drills Father With Wayward Shot on Thursday at 2021 Masters

The 2021 Masters Tournament teed off on Thursday and four-time major champion Rory McIlroy struggled early on. To top off the slow start, McIlroy hilariously struck his own father with an errant shot.

Gerry McIlroy showed up this week to support his son at Augusta National. However, in an amusing sequence, his own offspring nailed him in the leg on the seventh hole. Although McIlroy has placed in the top 10 six times at the Masters, he’s never won the major. With four pars to open the course, and then back-to-back bogies, McIlroy looked to get back on track on Hole 7. That wouldn’t be the case.

The golfer pulled his drive to the left of the fairway in-between two trees about 15 feet apart. In an attempt to make up for the poor drive, McIlroy hit for the green with his second shot. The bold move didn’t pay off. Instead, his dad was in for a shock when his son drilled him with his second shot.

As the ball comes floating down, you can see it strike a man who reacted to the blow by bending his left leg. The golf ball bounced off his leg and rolled backwards around 25 to 30 feet. Yep, that’s Gerry McIlroy, which his son and his caddie confirmed on the spot.

“That was your dad you hit?” the caddie asked.

“Yea!” McIlroy responded.

McIlroy ended the hole with another bogie on the Par 4. He ended the day tied for 60th place with a +4 on the day. The golfer is 11 strokes behind leader Justin Rose who finished 7 under par.

2021 Masters: Tiger Woods Bummed Out to Miss Champions Dinner

On Tuesday, golf legend Tiger Woods admitted he’s bummed out that he won’t be able to attend the annual Masters Champions Dinner in Augusta’s clubhouse. Since he’s still recovering at home from his horrific car accident, Woods is missing out on The Masters this year. He’s not just missing out on playing in the tournament, but will also miss out on other festivities of the week.

As a former champion at the event, Woods is invited each year to the Champions Dinner event. Another golf icon Ben Hogan started the longtime tradition back in 1952, which has lived on ever since. The previous year’s winner hosts the Champions Dinner in the clubhouse on the Tuesday night of tournament week. Additionally, they have the honor of creating the full menu. Therefore, last year’s champion Dustin Johnson will host the 2021 Champions Dinner.

Tiger Woods shared his thoughts on Twitter about missing out on the event. He called the annual dinner one of his “favorite nights of the year.” Woods also poked fun at Johnson saying he’ll miss running up his dinner bill.

“I’ll miss running up @DJohnsonPGA’s bill at the Champions Dinner tonight. It’s still one of my favorite nights of the year,” Tiger Woods tweeted.
