‘WrestleMania 37’ Delayed After Weather Storm Causes Issues In Tampa

by Joe Rutland

WWE fans have been waiting a long time to see “WrestleMania 37” in person. Their wait continues after a delay.

The two-night pro wrestling card starts Saturday night at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. “WrestleMania 37” is the first big WWE event that actual fans will be allowed to attend.

Earlier in the week, “NXT TakeOver,” another two-night show, allowed limited numbers of fans into the arena where the show happened.

WWE’s main network TV shows, “Monday Night Raw” on the USA Network and “SmackDown” on FOX,” have been taking place inside Tropicana Field in Tampa.

However, a storm that forced fans out of their seats and into shelter is still causing problems. The delay was announced on the broadcast, as well as on social media.

The delay comes mere minutes after opening welcomes, credits and the singing of “America the Beautiful”.

Updates From Fans, WWE Put Severe Weather On Their Radar

Saturday night’s main event features “SmackDown” champion Sasha Banks facing off against Bianca Belair. It’s also the first time in WWE history for two African-American female wrestlers to appear in a “WrestleMania” main event.

Earlier in the evening, fans were posting from the stadium and sharing views of ominous clouds.

Stephanie McMahon Assures Fans Show Will Start On Time

A little more than two hours before the opening night of “WrestleMania 37,” Stephanie McMahon, WWE chief brand officer, and daughter of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, gave fans an update on Twitter. Further, she let fans know that the show starts “TONIGHT” promptly at 8 p.m. EST.

While “America the Beautiful” was sung and the opening welcome from McMahon was made, it immediately led to a lightning delay.

While the heavy winds have reportedly died down, heavy rain continues to fall in the stadium area. Raymond James Stadium also does not have a retractable roof and there’s very little to cover the ring from rainfall. With lightning in the area, it’s no surprise it’s been delayed.

WWE has not given any indication on how WrestleMania 37 will proceed.
