We all have fond memories of the ballpark. Whether it’s a Little League victory, a high school championship or sitting in the stands for that very first MLB game, the sense of awe is something you won’t quickly forget. For a young fan of America’s Game, that moment came in the form of an interaction with Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Max Scherzer.
And after watching this clip, which was posted on Twitter, the line from Money Ball resonates: “How can you not be romantic about baseball?”
As Max Scherzer steps out of the dugout at Dodger Stadium, he looks into the crowd and smiles.
“Hi, guys!” he says. The star pitcher then proceeds to sign some autographs. One young boy hands him a ball. In the clip, he can be heard excitedly saying “I can’t believe it” when Scherzer signs the baseball and hands it to him. The fan becomes overwhelmed by his emotions and a few tears fall from his eyes.
Scherzer then asks, “Can I give you a high five?” To which the boy immediately puts his hand up. After the encounter, the young fan runs back to his seat repeating, “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it!”
It’s truly a heart-warming moment. And one that will have you reliving those hopeful days as ballplayer.
Almost Time for October Ball
As the MLB regular season comes to a close, the Dodgers will be vying for the National League West division title in hopes of advancing in the next round leading up to the postseason. Though they’ve hit the 100-game win mark, the Dodgers are currently two games back from the San Francisco Giants with six games left to go.
After playing half a season in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Dodgers finally ousted the competition to earn the World Series Champion title. They’ve been strong competitors since 2016 with a stacked line up including superstar Clayton Kershaw. The addition of Scherzer from the Washington Nationals only bolsters their pitching lineup.
Additionally, the Milwaukee Brewers clinched the National League Central division Sunday and secured their spot for some October ball.
Much like the Dodgers, the Phillies are 2.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East division.
Further, you can’t count out the St. Louis Cardinals who currently stand at 87-69 behind the Brewers with a week to go.
Whatever happens, the National League Wild Card game will be a fun ride.
Dodgers Wild Moments
Not all the action happens during playtime, however. A key moment at Dodger Stadium happened this summer when one of the team’s ballgirls took down a wild fan. She soon received national attention and was hailed a hero. Missed the moment? Watch the clip here.
